Hatha Yoga

Hatha yoga is designed precisely to break this downward spiral of deterioration in our posture that is brought about by gravity, age and unconsciousness. Hatha yoga ‘opens’ the body by emphasizing alignment and action in the performance of the asanas, which are designed to open the four corners of the body as you stretch and strengthen the joints and limbs.

When doing an asana or stretch, you first set yourself up properly (through proper form and alignment) and then stretch the muscles that are ‘tight’ while firming and strengthening the muscles that are weak. With this kind of mindful work, your body easily recovers its natural healthy posture and range of motion.

The work becomes truly fruitful, however, when it is supported by the best attitude, which looks upon the body as a vessel and expression of the divine qualities of its Creator, which shine most brightly in the heart. Posture is more than mechanical structure; it is the affirmation and expression of inner beauty. When this spiritual attitude precedes the physical work, then the physical work becomes as fulfilling as the act of creating a work of art. And in this case, the work of art is you.
